Welcome to Pack 515
Scouting has been around a long time (since the turn of the 20th century); and Cub Scouts was formally launched in 1930 with 5,102 boys registered at the end of that first year. Since its inception, millions of children have participated in Scouting for the fun and excitement of it. Flowing underneath all this fun and excitement is a character-building program that encourages making good ethical choices, family strengthening, physical fitness, and citizenship skills in the lives of our children.
Scouting utilizes an advancement system that requires a scout to “do his/her best” to complete the requirements towards his Rank (Bobcat Badge > Lion > Tiger > Wolf > Bear > Webelo > Arrow of Light). There are many awards and recognitions available in Scouting; Pack 515 strives to make each award earned significant and meaningful to the Scouts so it will be remembered for a long time.
From a global perspective, you and your scout are members of Pack 515, which is in the Chaparral District of the South Plains Council of the Boys Scouts of America. We are in every sense a community Pack, drawing most of our members from the Shallowater School District of Shallowater, Texas. The Pack is run by registered BSA Adult Leader volunteers and the scouts are separated into rank which is generally determined by the grade of the scout. The smaller groups of scouts are referred to as a Den. You will become part of a Den where your scout will have most of his/her Cub Scouting experiences.
During weekly Den Meetings, the boys will play games, build craft projects, go on field trips, etc. to meet the objectives of their rank. Boys will be improving on different skills as they learn to get along with others, become more resourceful, and participate in new activities. Pack 515 is most active from September to May and the year culminates (near the end of the school term) with all the boys ‘crossing over’ into the next rank at our Advancement ceremony. During the summer a few activities are planned but most Den and Pack Meetings are suspended.
Thank you for taking the time to go over this web site and for your support of Pack 515. We are excited to have you in the Pack and we look forward to a rewarding and exciting Cub Scout experience together. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Yours in Scouting,
Robert Howard, Cubmaster
